Miroslava Garza, O.D.
Dr Miroslava Garza was born in McAllen, Texas and raised in Valle Hermosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She acquired her bachelor’s degree in Biology with double minors in Chemistry and Medial Spanish from the University of Texas Pan-American in Edinburg, Texas and Doctor of Optometry degree from MCPHS University in Massachusetts.
Dr. Garza completed her optometric externships in Dorchester Community Health Center in Boston, South Texas Veterans Health Care Systems in San Antonio, and at Gulf Coast Eye Institute focusing on optometric primary care and ocular pathology. Dr Garza completed a low vision rehabilitation training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, a Harvard University hospital.
Dr. Miroslava Garza joined the optometric team at Gulf Coast Eye Institute after completing her final externship in 2017. She has four years of experience.
Dr. Garza is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist, with special interest and training in low vision and medically necessary contact lenses. She treats a wide array of eye diseases and conditions, such as; cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and more. She has authored and published in the PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases Journal in 2014. Dr. Garza is a member of the Texas Optometry Association, Rio Grande Valley Optometric Association, and Beta Sigma Kapp·a lnternational Optometric Honor Society.
A travel enthusiast, animal lover, and dedicated to community service, Dr. Garza has volunteered in various events in cities throughout Texas and Massachusetts. Special Olympics optometric screening, Northeastern University vision screening, Edinburg Children’s Hospital to mention a few. Dr. Garza is passionate about delivering quality, attentive eye care and forms part of our Gulf Coast Eye Institute Optometric Team.
